My Endoscopy Experience

Endoscopy is a medical process and involves using an endoscope to look inside the body for some medical reasons. Today I had to undergo it because my doctor suspects that I have GERD. Fortunately, the specialist found nothing in my stomach, so it means that my tummy is healthy. He just told me to eat healthy and avoid drinking so much sodas.

An endoscope

Anyway, before the procedure, I was advised to fast for more than 12 hours. That’s strictly no eating and no drinking. So imagine my tummy rumbling all day and the dizziness because of hunger. But I drank a glass of water before we head to the hospital just enough to avoid dehydration and fainting. When I got to the hospital, I had to wait for almost an hour since we drove there an hour earlier to the appointment. So there I waited in the waiting area with the other patients. Time passed by a bit quicker than I expected, the doctor called my name and as I approached him my heart pounded very quick. He introduced himself to me and told me that I have a lovely surname (coz Lacsamana is a foreign surname in Norway). His assistant gave me a small shot-like glass of a fluid ( I don’t know the name) and I had to drink it to help them see my stomach better. After that he gave me an anesthetic spray in my mouth and throat. Since it was my first time to have my throat sedated, I felt nervous and worried, really worried that I started to ask them a lot of questions about the procedure.

Moving on, they asked me to lay on my side, bite a mouth piece and proceeded with the endoscopy. As the doctor pushed the endoscope tip in my mouth to my throat and down to my stomach, I got really nervous and I almost puked, but then his assistant was standing behind me and trying to calm me down. I cried a bit because of discomfort and nervousness. After a couple of minutes the doctor pulled the intravenous line and said that it’s done (finally!).

I’m so relieved now that I know my stomach is ok. All I have to do is to be careful of what I’m eating. Endoscopy is not that bad either, but I don’t want to experience it again.

A Student’s Blah Blahs: A Yummy Discovery

I woke up late today due to lack of sleep last night. I’ve been reading for my exams this month and in December. I have this feeling of excitement but at the same time I’m nervous. Well, I guess it’s the feeling you get when you anticipate something big in your life.

Anyway, I’ve been to my Finance and Investment class today. It was actually the last lecture. I hated that class and I didn’t like the professor (‘coz he puts me to sleep in class). However today I felt sad and I felt fortunate. Sad because I’m going to miss the monotonous tone of my professor and fortunate because finally almost done with the course and the professor is really helpful. I admit that I’m going to miss the old man. :p
After school, I went to the public library and reviewed my notes and did some exercises. It was a bit messy and frustrating at first but I managed to calm myself down and understand the previous and the latest lessons. I was really impressed by the productiveness and the level of focus I had today. Believe me or not, the reading room wasn’t empty when I came there. It surprised me that after a couple of hours (It felt like 30 mins) I was the only person inside then my imagination started playing tricks on me, -What if I’m already dead?, What if they got eaten by a zombie, What if this place is hunted and etc. :p I guess I was daydreaming or “daynightmaring”. Maybe my brain or mind has developed this defence mechanism against the frustration I had earlier today.
When I was finally fed up by numbers and letters in my head, I’ve decided to go home, and relax. Then there came the chicken craving! Luckily, we still have some chicken fillets left in the freezer. 😀 My bf asked me what I will do with the chicken. I told him that I can make “adobo” since we have soy sauce, vinegar and garlic but I’ve decided not to because we just had it last week.
Then it came to me that we still have ginger so I started to saute garlic, onions, ginger and I added the chicken fillet and the broth-Yes I was making tinolang manok. 🙂 I also had to use soy sauce because we ran out of salt. I honestly disliked the taste with the soy sauce but after 15 minutes of boiling it tasted really good. I added egg noodles (I was too lazy to cook rice) and boiled it for another 15 minutes and
voila!
Behold my homemade chicken noodles:
Bf approved!
I so love this day!

For The Curious Cows

I’m one of the few who eat vegetable salad on a daily basis. I can’t say that I’m proud but I say that I’m healtier now. I thank my family especially my parents who were really patient on feeding me green and leafy vegetables when I was a little kid. I know it is not an easy task to feed kids with vegetables.

Some of the people I know were implying that the reason why I eat salad is that I want to reduce weight and be thin. They thought that I don’t eat a lot as much as they do because I eat salads. I’m not surprised on how they associate salads and weight loss, I’m sure everyone has seen the ads about weight loss and dieting. It’s frustrating to explain to some of them that I eat healthy because I want to be healthy and I don’t need to reduce weight. We all know that there are various reasons why people are into this kind of lifestyle, so before you come up with a conclusion ask first. I honestly got offended when someone told me that I don’t eat like normal people do.
Anyway, enough with the ranting, I want to share an example of what I usually eat every weekdays.
  1.  To start my day, I eat a big slice of bread with ham and/or cheese  and a glass of milk during breakfast.
  2. During my lectures I always make sure that I have a bottle of water and some cookies with me (Just in case I get hungry or thirsty)
  3. I usually have salads for brunch.
  4. I still eat salads for lunch but this time, double portion.
  5. For dinner, I’d eat anything (example: meat, fish, chicken, rice etc)
  6. If I get hungry in between the meals I eat snacks(cookies, chocolates, etc).
Say, ain’t this a normal diet? >.<
Being healthy is not just about reducing weight nor having curves but it’s how you take care and love yourself.
