The Ullandhaug tower is one of the most visited landmarks in Stavanger. I have never been there (eventhough I only live a couple of blocks aways from there) nor heard about its history. I thought that it is just a telecommunication tower (no more no less) and so I never bothered to ask someone about it nor searched about it on the internet. However today I got curious about its history while taking pictures of it.
According to Wikipedia, the old tower (Haraldstårnet) was built in 1896 to commemorate the Battle of Hafrsfjord.
The tower is 39 years old. It was built in 1964 by the former Televerket. The tower stands 202 meter above the sea level. This is also a popular place for hiking.
