Summer Body

For some, being summer ready means having a bikini body but for my boys it means a fixed, functional and polished boat.

Theory in Practice

In my opinion, the most effective way to learn geometry is not just by reading books but by studying our surroundings. We can find geometry in almost everything.

For today’s challenge, I chose a photo that I took in a cabin trip last weekend. I’m always fascinated by details especially by parallel lines and circles and symmetry.

This post by the way is my take on Cee’s Compose Yourself a Photo Challenge: #19 Geometry in Photography.

No, it’s not what you think it is. 🙂

Parallel lines, squares and right angles. How many can you find?

They still deserve our respect.

No matter who they are or what they have done in their lives, they are still human beings that need to be respected and treated as if they are our friends or family. They may act as if they do not recognize the world anymore, but remember they have once built this land before you were born. Do not also forget that one day you will also be needing a helping hand, to guide you with your medicines, help you eat and help you walk.

So please be nice to them, at least. Smile and tell them how glad you are to see them.

Knock, Knock!

My life had been a roller coaster ride during the first two months this year. I felt hopeless, insecure and unsure about my future and career as the unemployment rate increases. However, I did not give up. I searched for jobs and have been an active volunteer near my place. I also talked to my friends and acquaintances regarding my situation and it helped me to remain calm and keep my sanity. They all told me one thing, Never Give Up!

I applied jobs online within the economic and administration sector, bank and finance and health sector. Out of 15 companies that I applied for, only 5 of them replied to tell me that they have already hired someone. I did not hear from the rest, except for those that I have called. They said that there were 150 applicants so they cannot check all the applications. I was getting depressed and frustrated until the office of social services sent me a message regarding a job fair within the health sector in Bergen. It gave me at least a gleam of hope.

I went to the job fair early and there were already lots of people who share the same goal with me, to get a job. I filled up a form, took out my cvs then went straight ahead to the booths and talked to almost everyone there. One of the firms scheduled me right away for an interview the next week. Then the day after, another firm called me and asked me to come for an interview.

To make the story short, they both offered me a job. I cannot explain what I felt that day. My situation changed. When I was really down and hopeless, opportunities came knocking on my door. I did not have to chase it anymore because it came to me. The only thing that I had to do is to choose.

So yes, finally, I have a job now. It is not full time yet but I have a job. And guess what, more opportunities are coming. Thanks to my friends, family and partner for always believing in me during the difficult times of my life.

Coffee, Tea and More!

As my relationship with tea gets stronger, my interest for tea shops and cafe grow as well.

Most of the tea lovers in Bergen that I chatted to, online, suggested that I check out Herskap & Tjenere. I have been here before, but I did not pay attention to the teas because I was not interested in teas yet. However, I did already find the place cosy and kind of unique. It is not fancy, nor classy but the ambiance is perfect.

Herskap & Tjenere is not your ordinary tea/coffee shop because they do not only sell tea and coffee and (brownies) but also candies, vintage women’s clothes and gift articles such as mugs, stickers and many more!

I went here after going to the job fair last Friday. It took me at least 15 minutes before I ordered something because I could not decide what tea to order. The woman who was working there that time asked me what teas I drink, I told her, green tea but I told her that I wanted to try something new. So she suggested some teas, like the red teas and she added that she drinks it everyday to relax her nerves. I still could not decide what to order so I told her I need more time. I looked up to one of the shelves and found the Chinese teas, then I suddenly remembered the tea blogs that I stumbled upon to, almost all of them recommended Pu erh tea.

So yes, I ordered a cup of Pu erh and I loved it! One cup is 33 NOK. Not bad!

When it comes to the service, I can say that they are one of the best. I cannot say that they are very knowledgeable about Chinese teas they are selling but the woman was really helpful and answered my questions nicely and politely.

I recommend this tea shop to all tea enthusiasts and curious cats like me. 🙂

Lovely Finds

Who said that you won’t find nice stuff at a thrift store? I should have done this before, visit the thrift store near my place. They have lots of cheap and awesome stuff that I like (and need). Last Tuesday, I went to the Fretex (The Salvation Army) shop near where I live. I didn’t think of buying anything, I only wanted to check what they have. I also find it relaxing to go inside a thrift store.

It was my first time to go inside this store. It looks small from the outside but very spacious inside. I first checked out the furniture department and found vintage sofas and coffee tables. Then I went to the glass/figurine/porcelain department and there I found Japanese tea cups. I got really happy and even happier when I found out how much they cost. So without hesitation, I put them in my basket and I started looking if those tea cups belong to set. Unfortunately, no tea pots to be found but I’m still glad that I found the tea cups. Four of the tea cups are made of clay and the tall white ones with characters on it are semi porcelains. Then on my way to the cashier, I found a sushi set. This is exactly what I need. I’ve been hunting this kind of sushi plates since last year. I feel so lucky!

I only paid 145 NOK for all of these. It’s a steal!

How about you? Found anything interesting in the thrift shop lately? 🙂
