A day before our departure back to Norway, we went to see Alcudia’s old town. I love old and ancient architecture plus the history behind it. We went there around 12 noon so it was hot and there were already lots of people. However, it didn’t stop us from admiring the place.

The city walls were built in the 14th century as ordered by King Jaume II to protect the city and its inhabitants from the pirates.

While walking along the city wall, I noticed small “windows” which has very small openings. I thought that maybe those windows were for protection against enemy arrows and was probably used as a spy window. 😛 I’m not so familiar with ancient walls and fortification but I’ve read on Google that these holes are called putlog holes and are used for scaffolding.

It’s also possible to go on the wall. I would love to do that but my kid started having tantrums because of hunger and the heat so we just moved on to find some food and refreshments.

Then we found the shopping street. Mostly of souvenirs, clothes and handmade jewelries. One thing that I found out after visiting these shops is that most of the souvenir items in the Old Town are cheaper compare to the ones near the beach.

Towards the end of our city tour, we found Sant Jaume church. Unfortunately, it was close when we went there. Beautiful facade and it reminds me of old churches in the Philippines.

To sum up, we had a great time in the Old Town despite the heat. The only thing that we regret is not getting there earlier because the place was already packed with other tourists.
