From Bergen to Mo I Rana, Part 3: Dovre

Dovre is one of the places I wished we had stayed longer than just one night. Located in Innlandet, Dovre has lots to offer when it comes to nature. We chose Dovre as our second stop for the night because we were hoping to get a glimpse of the moskus (muskox) while driving along the Dovrefjell main road, E6, the following day.

The campsite we stayed at for the night, Toftemo Turiststasjon, is lovely and convenient, and it’s perfect for families with small children. We chose this campsite mainly because of the pool. My eldest wanted to go swimming, so it was the perfect place for us.

What we love about this place is that you can choose whether or not to have breakfast at the hotel. We decided to have breakfast there before checking out, and it saved us a lot of time! The cabin and the sanitary facilities were also clean, which is always a big plus when you’re traveling with kids.

Aside from the pool, there’s also the Gudbrandsdalslågen River right by the cabins, where you can go fishing or simply take a swim.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the moskus because we were too far away from where they could be found in the national park. We also didn’t have much time or energy to do a lot during our one-night stay. Still, even though our stay was short, it was definitely a pleasant experience for all of us. Oh well, now we have another reason to come back to Dovre!

And that’s a wrap for Part 3 of our road trip! As I’ve mentioned in the beginning, Dovre was definitely one of those places where I wished we had stayed a little longer. But with two kids and a long journey ahead, sometimes one night is all we can manage. 😅

Next stop: Trondheim! There’s still a lot more to share from our trip north, so stay tuned for Part 4. ❤️
