Staying Away

Temptations are everywhere if you’re not doing anything or bored. The best way to avoid it is to go away, keep moving and be busy with something else. As I’ve read from my Facebook friends’ post “You don’t fight temptations. You stay away from it.” It has been a dream summer weather for a couple of weeks now and it has also been hot. Sometimes all I felt that I wanted to do in this weather is to just stay inside or take a smoke. The craving was strong on the latter but I’m glad that I didn’t give in. 😀 Instead of going to the grocery (where they sell cigarettes), I packed a small backpack and drove to the parking place where the trail to the mountain is.

Anyway, I went on a hike to Hafstadfjellet two days ago. It was actually a spontaneous trip as I wasn’t sure of my condition. I felt that I was exhausted and tired after my shift. At the same time, I was a bit sceptical because there were reports of lightning. However, I remembered what an old friend told me before that I shouldn’t be worried about lightning striking on me because I’m not that tall enough. 😛 haha!

On the summit!

Hafstadfjellet is located in Førde and is 706 meter above sea level. There are three ways to get to the summit and I chose the one that starts from Bruland (6 min drive from the hospital). It took me 1 hr and 50 minutes to complete the trip (back and forth). The trail consists of gravel road all the way to the top and steep as you get closer to the top. Of course it’s not that easy to go uphill but the reward is just fantastic.

The view from the summit!

Then during the descent, I’ve realized that the trail is steeper than I thought. So, I’m glad that I had a good pair of hiking shoes on me. But still, I was really carefull as I walk down the steep parts of the trail because the gravel/sand was loose because of the dry warm weather.

Just beautiful!

So going back to my craving, I forgot about it during and after the hike. 😀 Hiking and nature trips is definitely effective against unhealthy vices and cravings.
