The Nerve(s)

So it all started last year. At first, I could just ignore it. The intensity was bearable and I still could hide the effect and my reaction when it happened. I thought that it was just a phase. I was wrong. I pretended that I was allright every time because I don’t want to catch the attention of strangers, colleagues and/or family. However, lately I got tired because it came more and more often like birth contractions.

Around a month ago, I went to the ER after my work. Fortunately, the “attack” happened after my shift. One of my colleagues witnessed my suffering as I cried and curled up in pain. Yes, I was in intense pain. And it is one of my knees. It felt like something was stabbing my knee with an icepick. It was extreme, sporadic but also quick. However, the pain kept coming back not only a couple of times but a lot of times! That’s why I decided to seek help of a doctor that very same day. Then the doctor examined my knee thoroughly and she has also spoken to the ortoped for second opinion. They said that they could not find anything on my knee and they think it is probably a neuropathic pain. So they gave me morfin tablets to help ease the pain and told me to relax at home.

I did what I was told to but I didn’t need to take the tablets as the pain didn’t come back after the ER visit! So, I just thought that maybe I just wasted my time going to the ER because I have a low pain threshold. Oh well, I hope it’s nothing serious.
