A Short Retreat to Sjøbua

Just an hour’s drive from the city of Bergen, lies one of the dagsturhytter in Alver–Sjøbua. It is located on Radøy in Alver municipality.

Summer is already here, but we all know that living in Norway, especially in the west coast, means that the weather can be unstable. One day it may be sunny; the next, rainy.

There’s no guarantee that summer here will be warm and sunny. Some, if not most, locals don’t really mind the rain when they hike. I don’t either, but for the best hike experience for the kids, I prefer to go when the weather is nice.

From the parking area

Yesterday was one of those fine days. So I grabbed our bags and the pram and drove to Radøy with both of my children.

Looks so peaceful

Just a few meters from the parking area, lies this beautiful lake.

As you can see in the photo below, the trail is nice and well-maintained. and it’s good for walking and is also both wheelchair- and pram-friendly.

Facts and tips:

From Bergen to Sjøbua’s parking area: 1 hr and 20 minutes by car. Some of the roads in Radøy are narrow, so keep that in mind.

If you’re going to take the bus, it take at least 2 hours to reach the bus stop, plus an additional 20 minute walk to the trail.

The walk to the dagsturhytta takes around 10 to 15 minutes one way.

Overnight stays or sleeping in the cabin are not allowed.

If the weather is important to you, you can check the forecast on pent.no.

A moment to remember

As mentioned earlier, the trail is both wheelchair- and pram-friendly. This trip is suitable for everyone who loves getting closer to nature–or if you just simply need a dose of vitamin sea.
