I remember when I was a kid that I would dream about snow and imagine how is it like to experience winter. Friends and family at the northern part of the globe were popular because they were living a dream. Actually, it is still one of the reasons why most of us from the tropics want to travel to cold countries. However, not every one has the opportunity to travel overseas.
It’s been snowing these past few days and I can’t help but reminise my very first snow experience and that was 14 years ago. Wow! I’ve already been living so long here in Norway. Time flies! Anyway, not all winters and snow are the same. Sometimes the snow is powdery perfect or sometimes wet but whatever it is I’m still grateful that despite of the climate issues, we still have the snow.
The temperature lately is below zero degrees plus the cold winds. It’s really cold. I understand that some people complain, but to wish for the winter to disappear is just wrong. We all know that the earth is warmer now than the previous years so we never know how long this will last or if we ever gonna experience snow/winter again in the future.
The snow is back after two weeks of storm and mild weather. I am also grateful that it is getting brighter again. My mood is starting to get better and I am motivated to try something new when it comes to jobs. The economic crisis is not yet over. Yesterday, one of the biggest banks here in Norway laid off 600 employees. So yes it means an increase in unemployment rate in the country. It is depressing for those who have lost their jobs and it is also frustrating for job seekers like me to find jobs within our field.
Yesterday I had a meeting with the local social services office. They have given me tips on how to find jobs. I listened attentively even though I already know it. Then in the end of the meeting they asked me if I have a business or establishment. In my mind I was thinking, it is a good idea. I actually have business ideas already. All I need is to make a plan, budget and just execute the plan. I have faith in this because I have the knowledge in economics and accounting.
Anyway, since the weather is nice today (and so as my mood), Zorro and I went for a longer walk this morning.
Mornings could be a tough time of the day to wake up and stay awake. I admit that I find it hard to be a morning person. Like today, I was dead tired this morning. I could of course have some cup of coffee but that would upset my stomach so I opened the door to the terrace and got some fresh air and voila! I got really awake in a jiffy.
It was 0 degrees Celcius and snowing. I think it is cold but not that cold. I went out to the terrace in my pajamas and IKEA slippers and started to think again of my frustration and my problem yesterday. I thought that I am the unluckiest person alive but my partner said that as long as I have a roof over my head then life is not that bad.
Moving on. I am sharing some of the shots that I took today from the terrace. I think the weather is perfect for a black and white shoot.
New home. New city. New opportunities. However it does not mean that I am saying goodbye to Stavanger for good. My family and friends live there and there are some places that I have never been to but would love to see/visit.
The place that I am living now is not far from Bergen sentrum. It is just 15 minutes drive and 20-30 minutes by bus. Then, there are two grocery stores just across the flat building. Not bad, right? The flat is also close to the mountains, hills, farms and fjords. So, the views are really good and the place is good for short/long walks/hikes.
Anyway, let my pictures take you for a walk. These were all taken today.
